Daily Design Inspiration

Where do you find inspiration when you are planning to update your home? Many people are conditioned nowadays to go to Pinterest or Houzz to find ideas. They may see some pretty pictures of white kitchens and say, “Oooo! I want that!” So they complete their remodel with white cabinets and whatever else they found online.

Other people are inspired by life… maybe they recently took a trip. Perhaps they went to Italy and visited Siena.

Inspired by the beautiful red, gold, and black marble used all over Siena, they consulted a designer and asked her to “…design a room that makes me feel like I’m in Siena.” We probably won’t include a statue looking in the direction of Florence to fend off invaders, but we can select products and materials that evoke memories of Siena.

Or maybe you’ve just come back from a very cool exhibit at the art museum and you’d like to have that ultramodern feel in your home:

Can you imagine creating a room with this as your inspiration? Combine Monogram stainless steel appliances with white cabinets and add drama with counters and lighting. You are limited only by your imagination and your budget.

Maybe you aren’t into art and just want a room that coordinates with your beloved pet or the woods by your house…

Putting together a kitchen or bathroom composed of dark and creamy tones with natural green accents is welcoming and classic.

A neutral palette leaves plenty of room for pops of your favorite colors. Confine the accent colors to paint and soft goods to change out at whim with minimal expense and disruption.

So go out and look around and be inspired! Share your ideas with your favorite designer and together you can create a space that moves you.

Pantone Color of the Year 2018 | Ultra Violet

If it seems to you that everyone, especially paint companies, announces their pick for color of the year, you would not be mistaken. However, the Pantone color of the year is the one to watch, as Pantone is the world-renowned authority on color.

Color of the Year 2018 - Quote from Lee Eiseman

Purple definitely makes a statement, and not everyone has the confidence to speak quite so loudly. Even so, purple has long been a favorite color of mine, as well as more than one of my clients!

For those influenced more by named trends than personal taste, Ultra Violet will find its way into graphic design, fashion, beauty products, and home decor.

Pantone created eight color palettes incorporating Ultra Violet. Use them as they are, or consider them inspiration to create your own custom palettes.

Three Ways to Create a Fool-Proof Color Scheme

Does the idea of creating a color scheme scare you? Maybe you doubt your ability to choose colors that complement each other… Or you’ve bungled the job in the past.

Don’t worry! I’m going to share with you three ways to put together a color scheme that will look great. Once you have decided on the basic colors to use, refer back to Choosing Paint Colors with Confidence.

If you are building a brand new house, you have a completely blank canvas and can incorporate your chosen color scheme throughout the whole space. If you are remodeling, be sure to look at the surrounding spaces and make sure the furniture, flooring, and window treatments will work with the new color scheme!

1. Pull Colors from Natural Stone

As noted in Cupboards and counters and tile, oh my!, it is generally a good idea to choose your cabinets or counter material first. Your budget determines the quality of cabinets you can afford, and each line of cabinetry has specific colors of stains and paint available.

You don’t need any special talent to find a color scheme in natural stone. If the idea of choosing colors strikes fear in your heart, this is the easiest to pull off.

Stones with Warm and Cool Tones

This stone creates many possibilities… Do you want a soothing retreat or something a little wilder? White shaker cabinets? Modern glossy purple cabinets?

Purple Accent Wall and Accessories

Do you see the warm white of the cabinets in the granite? The tile echoes the gray, cream and tan tones in the stone, while the purple accent wall salutes the purple streaks in the granite and makes them pop.

2. Let Mother Nature Inspire You

You have endless options when you find your color scheme in nature. Obsessed with the bright colors in the produce at the Farmers’ Market… Adore your dog?

3. Rebuild Rome in Your Own Home

Vacations inspire us in a way nothing else can. And while we don’t normally have ruins or centuries’ old trees inside our homes, we can page homage to them with color and materials.

Have fun choosing your colors! Let inspiration plant the seed and then follow your imagination and create something beautiful.
