If it seems to you that everyone, especially paint companies, announces their pick for color of the year, you would not be mistaken. However, the Pantone color of the year is the one to watch, as Pantone is the world-renowned authority on color.
Purple definitely makes a statement, and not everyone has the confidence to speak quite so loudly. Even so, purple has long been a favorite color of mine, as well as more than one of my clients!
